Fifty years’ membership of Bradford Circle for Foreign Languages was honoured when Margaret Stansfield (pictured right) was made a life member.

President of the German section from 1994 to 2002, Margaret’s first taste of the Circle was in 1961, when she performed in a play for the Spanish section whilst studying a foreign correspondence course at Bradford College. She remembers a smoke-filled room of mainly Bradford business men!

Margaret joined the German section in 1964, her interest in the language having been kindled by a Salts School Exchange in 1959. She is still friends with the German family today.

She used her German working for French wool company Dewavrin, German chemical company BASF, and finally Stephenson Brothers.

Still an active member of the Circle, Margaret also received a gift of crystal glasses from the German section.

Praising her for her passion for language, Circle president Clare Dewhirst (pictured left) presented her with a bouquet of flowers.
