Dr Kersten Hall spoke at the Circle for the first time. He is an author and Honorary Fellow,School of Philosophy, Religion and History of Science,University of Leeds. His interest in the German language comes from the fact that his mother is German ! The subject of his talk was Georg Zulzer, who considered himself to be the discoverer of insulin but was not recognised for this and instead the accolades and Nobel prize went to Frederick Banting and Charles H Best. It is a complex story with many twists and turns and it did seem as if there was a bad tempered ‘war’between the academics. Dr Hall has written a book called : The man in the monkeynut coat ! An intriguing title ; a number of copies were sold during the evening. We look forward to another entertaining talk in the future !
